Wild Clay Exploration Course

Embark on an exciting journey into the untamed world of wild clay! At The Northern Pottery, our Wild Clay Exploration Class takes you beyond the studio and into the natural landscape, teaching you how to source, process, and work with raw clay straight from the earth.

This hands-on course is perfect for adventurous potters and anyone curious about connecting their craft with the environment. You’ll not only learn the practical techniques needed to transform wild clay into usable material but also gain a deeper appreciation for the unique characteristics and challenges of working with it.

What You’ll Learn

Over eight sessions, you’ll:

  • Discover how to identify and harvest wild clay responsibly.

  • Learn methods for cleaning, testing, and preparing raw clay for use.

  • Explore how wild clay differs from commercial clays in texture, behaviour, and firing results.

  • Create and test small projects using wild clay.

  • Develop a deeper connection to your materials and their origins.

This course focuses on exploration and experimentation, making it ideal for those eager to push their creative boundaries.

What’s Included
