Intermediate to Advanced Wheel Throwing Classes

Ready to take your pottery skills to the next level? Our Intermediate to Advanced Wheel Throwing Classes at The Northern Pottery are designed for students who have already mastered the basics and are eager to refine their techniques. This course is ideal for those who have completed at least two beginner-level courses with us or have equivalent experience elsewhere.

What You’ll Learn

In this 8-week course, you’ll :

  • Tackle more complex and larger forms, including lidded vessels, plates, and vases.

  • Develop techniques for throwing with precision and repetition.

  • Learn to use specialist tools for intricate details and finishing.

  • Explore advanced surface decoration and glazing techniques.

  • Begin to define your personal design style and signature touch.

Each class includes guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, ensuring you progress at your own pace while pushing the boundaries of your creativity. Each term will have a specific guided project to work on with some scope to integrate your own creativity. This is not an open studio style class.

 

What’s Included

  • 8 x 2-hour classes in our fully equipped studio.

  • All materials, including clay, tools, and glazes.

  • Kiln firings for up to 8 small-medium completed pieces.

  • Expert instruction tailored to your skill level in small class sizes.

 

Alternatives and Progression

Intermediate students can take advantage of studio access sessions for extra practice time (conditions apply). These sessions provide flexibility to work on your projects or catch up if you miss a class. Have a chat with the TNP Team for session availability.

Studio Policies

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone:

  • Missed Classes: Make-up sessions are not available, but we offer open studio access (where applicable) to catch up on practice for an additional fee.

  • Refunds and Transfers: Bookings are final. Refunds are only offered if the course is cancelled by us. Transfers may be arranged with advance notice and a $25 administration fee.

  • Materials Use: Each student is allocated a fixed amount of clay and firings for up to 8 small pieces. Additional clay or firings can be purchased.

  • Age Limit: Participants must be 16 years or older.

 

Class Details

  • Duration: 8 weeks

  • Class Times: Times TBC.

  • Cost: $550 per term, including all materials and firing.

  • Classes do not run on public holidays. The term will be extended to accommodate any missed sessions.
