Beginners Wheel Throwing

Our beginner classes are designed to give you a strong foundation in wheel throwing while fostering a fun, supportive atmosphere.

Beginner Wheel Throwing Classes

Welcome to the world of pottery! At The Northern Pottery, we believe learning to throw on the potter’s wheel is about more than creating objects, it’s about discovering the joy of shaping clay, developing new skills, and finding your own creative rhythm in our friendly community of potters. Our beginner classes are designed to give you a strong foundation in wheel throwing while fostering a fun, supportive atmosphere.

What You’ll Learn

In this 8-week course, you’ll be guided through:

  • Preparing and centering clay on the wheel.

  • Throwing basic forms like cylinders and bowls.

  • Refining your work through trimming techniques.

  • Exploring surface decoration and textures.

  • Glazing your pieces to bring them to life.

You’ll finish the term with a collection of hand-thrown pieces and the confidence to continue your pottery journey.

What’s Included

  • 8 x 2-hour classes in our fully equipped studio.

  • All materials, including clay, tools, and glazes.

  • Kiln firings for up to 8 completed pieces.
